Welcome to A London Miscellany, a blog dedicated to the people, places and stories that have shaped London’s remarkable history.

I’m a London tour guide and creator of self-guided audio walking tours, and much of what you’ll find here begins with the research behind those projects. Whether I’m developing a route through the medieval City, exploring the backstreets of the East End, or uncovering the stories hidden inside London’s churches, I’m constantly discovering fascinating material that never quite makes it into the finished tour.

This blog grew out of that research.

Every article is inspired by the same curiosity that drives my walking tours and audio experiences: a desire to look beyond the familiar landmarks and uncover the people, events and forgotten corners that give London its character. Often, the most interesting stories are not the famous ones. They’re the details tucked away in old maps, overlooked buildings, contemporary accounts and centuries-old records.
